FORECAST 😎 COOLER WEEKEND

  • Los Angeles is in for a cooler weekend as a persistent trough keeps temperatures 5 to 10 degrees below normal through Saturday, with morning low clouds and fog along the coast and valleys. A warming trend begins Sunday as the upper high over Texas shifts west, gradually bringing clearer skies and rising temps, though most areas will remain slightly below average. Early next week, a strong upper high will push temperatures higher, with triple-digit heat possible in the western San Fernando Valley by Wednesday and localized small craft advisories for coastal waters through the period.

🏡 DEVELOPMENT

HOLLYWOOD ROMAINE ST. PIVOT

  • Hollywood’s 7000 Romaine Street could see a dramatic transformation as Onni Group pivots from offices to high-rise housing while preserving the historic 1930 Howard Hughes Headquarters. Designs by Solomon Cordwell Buenz showcase a contemporary tower rising behind the Streamline Moderne façade, with staggered glass volumes, a pedestrian paseo, and a garage connected via skybridge. The proposed zoning change under review would allow residential development under Measure JJJ rules, reflecting broader shifts along Romaine and La Brea as Hollywood’s corridor blends housing, commerce, and entertainment.

  • Netflix has released the trailer for Steve, a new drama starring Cillian Murphy as a headteacher at a last-chance reform school. Directed by Tim Mielants and executive produced by Porter, Steve hits select theaters September 19th and Netflix October 3rd.

HOLLYWOOD 💸 CREATE ACT

  • Jon Voight and Steven Paul are backing the CREATE Act, a bipartisan bill aiming to extend the federal tax deduction for U.S.-based film and TV productions through 2030. The measure, currently set to expire at the end of this year, would allow domestic shoots to deduct production costs in the same year, helping sustain jobs, support local businesses, and keep filming in Los Angeles. Voight highlighted his latest project, The Last Firefighter, as an example of how Section 181 keeps productions local, while the coalition of industry supporters sees the Act as a step toward broader federal incentives for American film production 🐰
